Two players who had dominating Maritime Women’s Basketball Association seasons celebrated together a world away.
Both Abby Miller and Karissa Kajorinne experienced MWBA success, both of them winning a PROLINE Legacy Cup championship with Miramichi HerIcanes and Halifax Thunder, respectively, but won a professional title in Portugal.
Playing with Academica de Coimbra, Miller and Kajorinne earned a two-game championship sweep in that nation’s second division and, with the triumph, helped pushed the team into the top tier for the 2026-27 season.
It was Miller’s first season as a professional. Kajorinne is a long-time pro overseas.
Miller amassed 322 points over four seasons in the MWBA with the Moncton Mystics and HerIcanes. She appeared in 37 games and was actually hoping to get in some late-season action with Miramichi during the 2026 season as she was protected by the squad. With her championship run, Miller remained in Portugal and was unable to appear in a fifth season MWBA game.
Kajorinne played for the Windsor Stars (now Lake City 56ers) and Thunder, scoring 400 career points over two seasons, averaging 21.05 an outing.
