Halifax Hornets posted their eighth win of the season, this one a road triumph, downing host Windsor Edge, 58-49 Saturday in Maritime Women’s Basketball Association play.

The game marked the end of the regular season for both teams.

Hornets finished 8-2 and Edge is 4-6 as the teams prepare for next week’s championship weekend.

The Nova Scotia top seed is undefeated (10-0) Halifax Thunder, which earns a first round bye into the semifinals. Hornets will be No. 2 and Edge No. 3 seeds from the Bluenose Province.

Which teams they will face from New Brunswick remains to be seen and won’t be answered until late Sunday afternoon when the Fredericton Freeze host Moncton Mystics at Leo Hayes High School.

Game time is 2 p.m.

Fredericton sits first in NB right now, but a Moncton win would give it the nod as No. 1 seed from the province based on head-to-head action. Port City of Fog of Saint John has to sit and wait. Fog can finish second or third in the NB derby.

At Windsor, Chanel Smith drilled 17 points to spark the Hornets. Jayda Verney had seven and Lucina Beaumont and Clara Gascoigne had six apiece.

Karissa Kajorinne, the league’s scoring champion, had 24 for Windsor. Anna von Maltzahn added eight.
