Fast and Furious, the movie?

How about Fast and Furious, the Fredericton Freeze and Moncton Mystics?

The host Mystics shook off a slow first quarter start, trailing 26-18 before taking control of the contest, grabbing leads of 11 points twice entering the fourth quarter before the visitors awoke.

In a big way.

In a highly-entertaining fast and furious pace, the Freeze would roar back in the decisive fourth quarter, outscoring Moncton 29-16 to post a come-from-behind, 92-85 Maritime Women’s Basketball Association triumph in front of yet another big and noisy crowd in the host city.

One other game in Halifax saw the host Thunder overcome a sleepy first half, turning it on over the final 20 minutes to post an 85-47 decision over the Windsor Edge.

At Moncton, five players reached double figures to power the Freeze.

Kylee Speedy knocked down 24 points to lead the way offensively. Katie Butts popped 16, Katie McAffee 14 and both Robbi Daley and Allie McCarthy, making her regular season debut, hit for 10 apiece.

Lia St. Pierre matched Speedy’s offensive prowess with a 24-point night and was a force all game. Leonie Elbert meshed 20, Allie Berry scored all nine of her points in the second half and Kelsey McLaughlin had eight.

In Halifax, the Thunder and Edge battled through a half with the hosts holding a 43-33 lead before Halifax erupted in the second half, closing it out with an 86-47 win, limiting Windsor to 14 points over the final 20 minutes.

Anna van Maltzhan posted 17 points to lead a balanced Halifax offence. Keira Duffie had 16 and Tiffany Reynolds and Grace Wade 13 apiece.

Nalini Maharaj continued her solid play, sparking Windsor with 15 points. Kate Gallant and Tyler Malloy both had eight points.

The Freeze moved to 3-2 and the Mystics moved to 2-2.

Halifax sits undefeated and atop the standings with a 4-0 mark. Windsor is 0-4.

The league now goes quiet over Victoria Day Weekend, returning to action next week.
