The Maritime Women’s Basketball Association is taking a major step to showcase its championship weekend.

To the arena it goes.

The MWBA will play its Final 6 championship at Saint John’s TD Station, the multi-purpose facility that is home to the New Brunswick Interscholastic Athletic Association’s Final 12 championship at the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Saint John SeaDogs.

‘This is a big step for the MWBA and a lot of work has gone in to securing such a wonderful facility such as TD Station,’ said MWBA commission, Tasia McKenna. ‘So much credit has to go to the hometown Port City Fog and its general manager Paul Hickey. Paul and his crew wanted TD Station from the outset and they worked hard to ensure that was the place for the MWBA to crown a Legacy Cup championship.’

The Legacy Cup will be decided June 16 to 18 in Saint John.

Play opens June 16 with quarter-final action, leading into the June 17 consolation and semifinal play.

A champion and third place finisher will be decided June 18.

Much more information will come in the following weeks.

Basketball New Brunswick will also host its annual general meeting in Saint John that weekend and is encouraging all local minor associations to come out in support.
