Talk about a tale of two teams.
Hot start, hot comeback, solid finish.
That was the script in the opening game of the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association’s tournament session Saturday in Halifax at Saint Mary’s University.
The Port City Fog of Saint John dashed to a 20-8 lead through a quarter, only to watch the Halifax Hornets flex their offensive muscles with a 28-point second frame outburst to tie the issue at 37s.
Port City would end up dropping 21 in the third quarter and rode that momentum to an eventual 83-68 win over the Hornets, improving to 5-2 on the season. Halifax fell to 2-6.
Reese Baxendale dropped 19 points for Port City. Kaylee Kilpatrick had 17 and was a force at both ends of the rebounding paint. MacKenzee Ryan had a dozen and Erin Ingalls nine.
Hannah Brown drilled 18, Courtney Donaldson had 15 and Jasmine Parent tallied nine.
