And with the horn blaring at the end of the game, it also signalled the end of the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association’s fourth regular season.

‘We had an amazing regular season with so many accomplished players showcasing the talent our league has to offer,’ said MWBA commissioner, Jen McKenzie of Dartmouth, NS. ‘There was parity, so many tight games and now we all look forward to the playoffs.’

The final game of the season belonged to the Halifax Thunder which downed visiting Moncton Mystics, 88-76 in a high-scoring affair at Dalhousie University.

Thunder finished at 7-3 for third place. Moncton’s final mark was 2-8.

Halifax will face the loser of a game scheduled for Thursday between regular season champion Lake City 56ers of Dartmouth/Cole Harbour and Halifax Hornets.

That game goes Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Zatzman Sportsplex in Dartmouth.

The winner moves directly to the PRO•LINE Legacy Cup final four championship in Fredericton, June 21-22, at the Richard J. Currie Center.

The loser gets a second chance and will play Thunder for the right to travel to Fredericton.

Moncton will face Fredericton Freeze (5-5) in New Brunswick playoff action next Sunday at 7 p.m., at Fredericton High School. Miramichi Her-Icanes host Port City Fog of Saint John (1-9) in the other playoff. The winners go straight to the final four.

At Halifax on Sunday, Alaina McMillan and Sami Russell both had 15 as the Thunder subdued a stubborn crew of Mystics. Kiera Duffie had 10 and Sandy Saunders nine.

Addie Albert’s 17 sparked Moncton. Sadie Bowen had 16, Lindy Alcorn 14 and Celine Sterckel 10.
