There are two games left in the first half of the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association’s women’s basketball conference before academics and the Christmas break kick in.

One game is set for Friday, Dec. 5, in Charlottetown when the Holland College Hurricanes host Moncton’s Crandall University Chargers at 6 p.m. The lone game Saturday, Dec. 6, is in Fredericton at 2 p.m., when host St. Thomas University Tommies welcome Highway No. 7 rival University of New Brunswick at Saint John Seawolves.

The Mount St. Vincent University Mystics of Halifax lead the seven-team derby with an unblemished 7-0 record. St. Thomas sits second at 5-1 and Holland College’s 4-2 mark has it third. Sackville’s Mount Allison University Mounties are fourth at 3-3 and Crandall is fifth with a 2-4 mark. UNBSJ is 1-5 for sixth and University of King’s College Blue Devils of Halifax are winless in seven trips.

There are plenty of Maritime Women’s Basketball Association players in the ACAA.

Mount Allison’s Danielle Alexander plays with the MWBA’s Port City Fog of Saint John and leads the league in scoring, averaging 16.5 points per game. Celine Sterckel of the Moncton Mystics is third at 14.1 per game and Port City’s Avery Alward with UNBSJ is tied for seventh spot with 13.8 per outing. Mount Allison’s Sadie Bowen, who plays with Sterckel and the Mystics, is 10th with an 11.5 mark.

Vanessa Soffee and the Mohawk College Mountaineers of Hamilton are ranked No. 2 in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association, playing out of the Ontario Collegiate Athletic Association.

Soffee, who played with the MWBA’s Fredericton Freeze, has started seven of eight Mohawk games, averaging just under 23 minutes. She is averaging 5.3 points per game and 3.8 assists.
