The Mount Allison University Mounties of Sackville continued to roll Sunday and the playoff matchups are now set in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association’s women’s conference.

Mount Allison won its eighth straight game, downing University of King’s College Blue Devils of Halifax in the final game of the regular season.

Eyes will now turn toward Halifax when six teams gather for the ACAA title hunt Friday through Sunday at Mount St. Vincent University, home of the Mystics.

Regular season champion St. Thomas University Tommies of Fredericton (17-1) enter as the prohibitive favourite and join the hometown Mystics (13-4) with opening round byes.

Mount Allison (12-8, thanks to the late season run, secured third place in the league and will face Moncton’s Crandall University Chargers (3-15) in the quarter-finals. Holland College Hurricanes of Charlottetown (11-7) finished fourth and meet fifth seed University of New Brunswick at Saint John Seawolves (6-12) in the other quarter-final.

Quarter-final games are at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday semifinals are the same time.

The final goes Sunday at 1 p.m.

Mount Allison features a number of players from the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association, who all played key roles in the late season push which included a 64-63 win over Mount St. Vincent on Saturday.

In the game against the Blue Devils, Grace Tilley sparked Mount Allison with 22 points. Danielle Alexander had 15, Emma Roberts nine, Sadie Bowen and Kate Fillmore had five apiece and Addison Albert and Ava Godfrey both scored four.

Tilley, Alexander and Roberts were MWBA teammates last season with Saint John’s Port City Fog. Bowen, Fillmore and Albert played together with Moncton Mystics and Godfrey played for the champion Miramichi Her-Icanes.

Celine Sterckel had 14 points for Mount St. Vincent.
