The Splash Sisters are coming back.

That’s the nickname given to Allie McCarthy and Bailey Russell during their time as teammates with the University of Ottawa Gee Gees, a pair of highscoring players from New Brunswick.

Both are returning to the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association’s Fredericton Freeze this season.

The dynamic duo certainly made a mark with Ottawa – the 2024-25 Ontario University Athletics champions – during their time together, finishing top four in the country in scoring this past season.

McCarthy, an OUA second team all-star this season, spent three seasons with the Gee Gees after transferring from the University of North Dakota. She appeared in 66 games with the Gee Gees, averaging 14.4 points per game. This past season, the athletic McCarthy averaged 21.6 points an outing. She also hauled down 390 career rebounds.

She was a second team all-star last season in the MWBA and is Fredericton’s all-time leading scorer.

Russell, a third team OUA all-star this season, brought 18.8 points a game to Ottawa and exploded in the OUA after her first two seasons.

Never afraid to launch three-point attempts, Russell was 63-for-168 this season.

She is climbing up the MWBA scoring leader ladder and was a first-team league all-star last year.
