The Halifax Thunder sit atop the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association standings.

Thunder earned its third straight win and remain undefeated in the early going following a 78-63 triumph over Nova Scotia capital city rival Halifax Hornets.

Hornets are now 1-1.

Thunder held a slim 38-37 at halftime, but broke away in the second half, holding its foes to 26 points.

Veteran Justine Colley-Leger continues her early season offence, scoring a game-high 21 points. Kati Grootenber cashed in 18 and Maddy White had 11. Reigning Wonder Auto&Tire Player of the Week Elizabeth Beals-Iseyemi added 10.

Emily Dikdan stung the Thunder for 16 points to lead the Hornets. Sami Russell had a dozen on four three-pointers and Aki Kobayashi sunk 10.

Both teams are in action Sunday.

Thunder hosts Lake City 56ers of Dartmouth/Cole Harbour/Preston at 3 p.m. at Halifax Grammar School.

Hornets hit the road and will be the first-ever visiting opponent for the expansion Truro Tidal Queens.

That game is set for noon at Dal Agricultural College.

One other game Saturday night saw visiting Port City Fog move to 2-1 with an 87-57 win over Miramichi HerIcanes.
