The Maritime Women’s Basketball Association has surpassed the midway point of its inaugural season.
And now that pictures are starting to emerge for team standings and playoff projections, there’s also a solid battle developing offensively with the scoring race.
Karissa Kajorinne of the Windsor Edge continues to lead the derby, averaging 26.6 points per game and helping her squad to a 3-2 record. Haley McDonald of Halifax Thunder sits second with 19.1 points per game while Kajorinne’s teammate Tiffany Reynolds sits third at 18.2.
Reynolds is the reigning MWBA player of the week.
Rachel Farwell of Saint John’s Port City Fog has caught fire the last week and sits fourth at 14.5 points an outing. Farwell is a dominant scorer for reigning USPORTS champion Toronto Metropolitan University, formerly the Ryerson University Rams.
Jenna Jones of Moncton Mystics is fifth at 14.4 followed by a pair of Fredericton Freeze teammates including Emily MacLeod at 13.5 and Katie McAffee at 13.4. Reese Baxendale of the Fog (13.0), Chanel Smith of Halifax Hornets (11.0) and Justine Colley-Legere (10.1) round out the top 10.
League action continues Thursday when Farwell, Baxendale and the Fog visit Fredericton for a 7:30 p.m. date MacLeod, McAffee and the Freeze at Leo Hayes High School.
