Moncton Mystics vs Halifax Thunder
Game Leaders
Points: Sophie Atkinson & Alaina McMillan (Halifax Thunder) – 13
3’s Made: Sophie Atkinson (Halifax Thunder) – 3
The second game of the day saw the Moncton Mystics travel to Halifax to take on the undefeated Thunder. This game was all offence for the Thunder. They started this game on a 20-0 run and never looked back, capping off a dominant 35-point first quarter. The main scoring for the Mystics in the first came from Celine Sterkel who knocked down two triples. The first half for the Thunder was all about balanced scoring with an explosive 65-point half but not one Thunder was in double-figure scoring.
The second half showed that the Mystics were trying to fight back to erase the deficit by slowing the game down. A bright spot of the second half was Allie Berry, playing a great post-game on offence and defence grabbing multiple boards on both ends. But the Thunder continued to dominate overall with three players hitting double figures (Sophie Atkinson, Alaina McMillan, and Sami Russell) and the Thunder won this game 101-48, the first team this season to hit triple digits this season.
Port City Fog vs Halifax Hornets
Game Leaders
Points: Rachel Farwell (Port City Fog) – 22
3’s Made: Alisha McNeil (Halifax Hornets) – 4
The final game of the MWBA weekend was the nail-biter of the day. It was a defensive matchup that was close the entire way. The first quarter saw the Hornets see success in the paint with Jasmine Parent scoring eight first quarter points. The Fog was led by Rachel Farwell, who scored a team-high 13 points in the first half, but due to Alisha McNeil knocking down three triples in the second quarter, the game was tied 39-39 at the half.
The second half was just as tight. Fog used the Mackenzie Ryan and Kaylee Kilpatrick two-player game to keep the game close. The Hornets needed timely baskets from Eva Widmeyer to keep the game tied. The Fog had a chance to win the game but Kilpatrick missed the shot in the post so the game went into overtime.
In overtime, the Fog dominated this game. The star of overtime for Port City was Danielle Alexander. She scored six of her 10 points in overtime to help the Fog outscore the Hornets 12-3 in the extra session for the 84 – 75 win on the road.
