Only one New Brunswick-based team has won a game on the road this season in the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association.
The home court advantage stood tall again Friday in Saint John.
Hometown Port City Fog dropped visiting Moncton Mystics, 74-54 in the league’s lone game.
Fog moved to 5-4 and into a third place tie overall in the league, but sit deadlocked with idle Fredericton Freeze at 5-4.
Port City visits Miramichi Her-Icanes (3-5) Saturday night.
If Miramichi wins and then beats Fredericton on Sunday, the ‘Canes and Fog clinch home court advantage for the sudden-death Tuesday playoff for the right to go to next weekend’s Pro*Line Stadium Legacy Cup championship at Dalhousie University.
A Fredericton win Sunday at home – 1 p.m. at Lady Beaverbrook Gymnasium – assures them of home court advantage. Two Miramichi wins sends the Freeze to third and a trip to Saint John for a playoff game while Miramichi would host Moncton.
Wild times in the MWBA.
Meanwhile, Kaylee Kilpatrick sunk 14 points, Courtney Thompson had 13 and Mackenzee Ryan 10 for the Fog in its win over Moncton. It was the Mystics that allowed Fredericton an 81-62 road win Thursday to break the perfect at home slate for the NB teams.
Leonie Elbert and Ali Berry both had 11 for Moncton. Lindsay Black scored nine.
The Nova Scotia playoff scenario is set.
Halifax Thunder (9-0) faces Halifax Hornets (1-8) on Tuesday. The winner goes directly to the Pro*Series Stadium final weekend. The loser plays Lake City 56ers of Dartmouth/Cole Harbour (6-4) on Thursday to determine the fourth team to attend the final at Dalhousie University.
Port City at Miramichi is the only Saturday game. It goes at 7 p.m. at Miramichi Valleh High School.
Thunder and Hornets meet at 3 p.m. at Mount St. Vincent University in Halifax.
