ACAA Battles for Crown

Two teams will represent the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association women’s basketball conference at this year’s national championship.

We know one thing to be certain…St. Thomas University Tommies will definitely be going considering the Fredericton-based squad is hosting the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association championship in March at the Richard J. Currie Center.

Which team will join ACAA rival St. Thomas?

We’ll find out Sunday afternoon.

Six teams converge upon University of New Brunswick at Saint John for championship weekend that opens Friday morning.

There are plenty of players this weekend who played the 2024 season in the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association.

Championship lid-lifter has fourth seed St. Thomas facing University of King’s College Blue Devils of Halifax at 11 a.m.

Lindsay Black of the MWBA’s Moncton Mystics is with the Blue Devils.

The 1 p.m. outing has host UNBSJ Seawolves tangling with Sackville’s Mount Allison University Mounties. The Mounties come in as third seed, UNBSJ as sixth.

Mount Allison features Amelia Mitchell, Danielle Alexander and Avery Alward of Saint John’s Port City Fog. UNBSJ has Bailey Henderson and Jenny Cripps of Miramichi Hericanes.

The lowest remaining quarter-final seed will play first seed Mount St. Vincent University Mystics of Halifax on Saturday while the highest survivor faces second-seed Holland College Hurricanes of Charlottetown.

The Mystics feature Amanda Pearcey of Halifax Hornets and Celine Sterckel of Moncton.

Holland College has Lauren Armstrong and Alexa Rancourt of Lake City 56ers of Dartmouth/Cole Harbour.
