Case in point, Thursday night at Saint Mary’s University.
The visiting Lake City 56ers of Dartmouth/Cole Harbour rolled into the Nova Scotia capital and squeezed out a heartstopping 69-67 win over the two-time reigning champion Halifax Thunder.
Lake City moved to 4-1 and sole possession of first place in the seven-team MWBA. Thunder fell to 1-2.
Lauren Armstrong, coming off a 27-point outburst in a loss to Thunder on Sunday, sparked Lake City with a dozen points. Darah Fleurgin had 10 and Zoe Olscamp and Aki Kobayashi netted nine apiece.
Sandy Saunders and Aliyah Fraser sparked Halifax with 13 points each. Kiera Duffie counted a dozen and in the process became Thunder’s all-time leading scorer. Duffie entered the contest needing four points to surpass previous leader Haley McDonald.
