Final playoff seedings are in effect and we know what the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association post-season push will look like in the post-season.
Season IV for both teams wrapped up Sunday afternoon and the hometown Halifax Hornets earned an entertaining 56-51 decision over Lake City 56ers.
Halifax finished the regular season at 4-6. Lake City dropped its first game in almost a month and finished its season at 8-2, overall regular season champions thanks to a head-to-head record against Miramichi Her-Icanes, who could finish with the same mark pending results of their game later in the day against Port City Fog in Saint John.
In Nova Scotia, there are three teams, so the road to the PRO•LINE Legacy Cup , set for Fredericton June 21-22, is a bit different than New Brunswick’s division.
The 56ers will host the Hornets on Thursday in a 7:30 p.m. contest at the Zatzman Sports Complex in Dartmouth.
The winner punches its ticket to Fredericton with an automatic berth in the final four.
The loser of Thursday’s game earns a repechage and will play the second place Halifax Thunder (7-3) in a Friday night showdown at Saint Mary’s University to get to Fredericton.
In Sunday’s first game, Amanda Pearcey’s 18 points and Chloe Oxner’s 16 propelled the Hornets in the defensive-minded outing. Melina Collins sunk 10.
MacKenzie Smith powered Lake City with 13 points. Aki Kobayashi had 10 and Lauren Armstrong eight.
