MWBA - Maritime Womens Basketball Association

Championship Weekend Awaits

And then there were four.

The PROLINE Legacy Cup unfolds this weekend in Fredericton as the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association prepares to crown its Season IV champion.

It could be a heck of a dramatic tournament.

Why?

Consider you have two teams who tied with identical 8-2 records, one team is a two-time reigning champion and another hasn’t missed at least a semifinal appearance in four seasons and you have a formula for excitement.

Not to mention some serious offensive firepower from one through four.

Regular season champion Lake City 56ers of Dartmouth/Cole Harbour will join Miramich Her-Icanes, Halifax Thunder and hometown Fredericton Freeze in the event.

Lake City and Miramichi both tied atop the standings with 8-2 records, but the 56ers earned the nod as pennant winners thanks to a head-to-head victory.

Thunder, coming off back-to-back titles, were third in the league at 6-4 and Fredericton was fourth at 5-5.

Lake City meets Fredericton in the opener at the Richard J. Currie Center on Saturday at 5 p.m. The 56ers had the right to choose which game time it wanted thanks to its regular season crown.

Miramichi and Halifax tangle at 7:30 p.m.

The winners meet in Sunday’s final at 3 p.m.

The third place contest goes at 12:30 p.m.

Ticket information will be available, but there will be pre-ticket sales expected to start Wednesday and game day tickets will be available at the RJCC box office.

Tournament passes are $30 for adults that gets you into all four games. Seniors and student tournament passes are $25. Single day sessions for two games is $15 adults and $12 students and seniors. Under-14 youth are admitted free.
