There are four teams left in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association women’s conference basketball championship.

One of them in an upset.

University of New Brunswick at Saint John Seawolves eliminated Charlottetown’s Holland College Hurricanes early Friday afternoon to advance to Saturday’s semifinal.

Championship weekend is being held in Halifax at Mount St. Vincent University, home of the Mystics.

UNBSJ finished fifth in the league with a 6-12 record during regular season play, but used a 22-14 edge in the second quarter to eliminate the fourth seed Hurricanes, 65-55. Holland College entered play seeded fourth following an 11-7 regular season mark.

Avery Alward of UNBSJ had 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Seawolves. Ainsley Green scored nine.

Both are teammates in the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association with Saint John’s Port City Fog.

Nadia Barrington, signed with MWBA’s expansion Truro Tidal Queens for 2026, had eight points and seven boards for the Hurricanes.

The Seawolves now play regular season champion St. Thomas University Tommies on Saturday at 1 p.m., in the first semi-final.

In the other quarter-final, No. 3 seed Mount Allison University Mounties earned a tough victory, taming No. 6 Moncton’s Crandall University Chargers, 65-54.

Ava Godfrey had 15 points for the Mounties and Danielle Alexander added 12. Grace Tilley scored seven, Kate Fillmore six and Emma Roberts had five.

Godfrey is with the MWBA’s Miramichi Her-Icanes. Alxeander, Tilley and Roberts are teammates with Port City and Fillmore plays for the Moncton Mystics.

The Mounties now face second seed Mount St. Vincent tomorrow in the second semi-final.

The winners clash in Sunday’s final for the right to attend Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association final later this month.
