It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish.

Just ask the Miramichi Her-Icanes.

Miramichi was outscored 14-3 at one stretch early in the contest, but maintained its composure and battled all the way back to post an impressive 70-62 Maritime Women’s Basketball Association victory over the hometown Halifax Hornets.

The game was played at Mount St. Vincent University.

It was a huge win for Miramichi, not only because it moved to .500 on the season, but it also created a temporary three-way tie for a trio of New Brunswick teams in the standings.

The Her-Icanes moved to 3-3, the same mark as idle Fredericton Freeze. Port City Fog of Saint John was 3-2 entering a game at home against Lake City 56ers on Saturday night.

The top two New Brunswick-based teams will host a single game playoff to advance to the Pro*Line Stadium Series Legacy Cup Final Quartet June 22-23 at Dalhousie University in Halifax.

Lauren Rainford continued to impress in her first season in the MWBA. She dropped a game-high 24 points to spark Miramichi. Her sister Aiden Rainford had 13 and Katie Donahoe had a dozen.

Hannah Brown’s 14 paced Halifax. Jasmine Parent scored 12 and Amanda Pearcey had nine.

The Hornets fell to 0-7.
