The Maritime Women’s Basketball Association isn’t fooling around this off-season.
In fact, you could say the MWBA is cracking.
Okay, that may have been predictable, but the MWBA is anything but in its pursuit of corporate entities for its 2027 season.
The eight-team has signed a deal with Egg Farmers of New Brunswick.
Egg Farmers of New Brunswick joins the league under its Bronze Jump Shot Play partner.
The partnership certainly makes sense on numerous levels.
The Maritimes support its own and Canadian egg farmers are a key cog in the food industry.
Canadian egg farmers are proud to offer some of the highest quality products in the world. Due to a regulated system of supply management that is managed by provincial egg organizations and overseen by the Egg Farmers of Canada (EFC), it is ensured that an adequate supply of safe, high quality eggs are always available to Canadians.
Supply Management is a system that helps to ensure producers provide the eggs required to supply Canadian customers with what they need and want. The demand is estimated on an annual basis for the entire country, and producers in each province are given quotas.
Setting an annual requirement and providing quotas results in a less volatile market, and less competition which means that producers can focus on delivering quality product in an environmentally friendly way and still be successful.
It also ensures that family farms can sustain their businesses and provide the consumer with local product.
‘The entire process from reaching out to Egg Farmers of New Brunswick to finalizing a commitment was incredibly informative and professional,’ said MWBA director of partnerships and programs, Anna Lee LeBlanc of Moncton. ‘They understood the importance of our league highlighting women, women in sport and community environments. From a family perspective, so many people start their days or finish them with eggs or egg recipes for fuel. The combination works.’
The MWBA has four teams in each division.
The Good Robot New Brunswick Division features Port City Fog of Saint John, Moncton Mystics, Fredericton Freeze and Miramichi HerIcanes.
Good Robot Nova Scotia Division has Halifax Thunder, Halifax Hornets, Lake City 56ers of Dartmouth/Cole Harbour/Preston and Truro Tidal Queens.
The league opens its sixth campaign next April.
