She was the second leading scorer in the nation last season at the USPORTS level.

She is on her way to some major personal Maritime Women’s Basketball Association milestones.

She is also the Wonder Auto&Tire Player of the Week in the MWBA following a remarkable and productive weekend on the floor with the Fredericton Freeze.

Allie McCarthy did everything she could to push Fredericton to a weekend sweep, but in the end settled for a split despite her efforts.

McCarthy, who starred with the University of Ottawa Gee Gees the past three seasons, averaged 28.5 points a game on the weekend including a 31-point effort in a tough 75-70 loss to Lake City 56ers of Dartmouth/Cole Harbour/Preston and sunk 23 in an 85-80 win over Halifax Hornets. She hauled down 8.5 rebounds a game and averaged over 36 minutes.

Other players considered for the weekly award included Lake City’s Olivia Logan, Hornets’ Maddy Hiscock, Halifax Thunder’s Alexis Evans, Charlee Connors of Miramichi HerIcanes, Maddy Eustace of Moncton Mystics, Kendra MacKinnon of Truro Tidal Queens and Port City Fog of Saint John’s Grace Tilley.

League action continues Wednesday with an all-Halifax clash at Mount St. Vincent University.

Host Hornets (5-3) welcome Thunder for a 7 p.m., clash.

A single game Thursday has Fredericton welcoming Moncton at the Lady Beaverbrook Gymnasium.

Game time is 7 p.m.
