The Halifax Hornets are ready to compete.

The Hornets announced their final roster signing, bringing on board Ella Hoyt for the 2026 Maritime Women’s Basketball Association season.

Hoyt is a senior at Halifax Grammar School and has committed to Len Harvey and the Acadia University Axewomen, preparing to compete at the Atlantic University Sport level in 2026-27.

The five-foot-11 guard was ranked amongst the top recruits in Atlantic Canada.

She was part of Basketball Nova Scotia’s march to a bronze medal at the 2025 Canada Summer Games in St. John’s, NL.

The MWBA introduced a new rule for the 2026 season where players in their senior year of high school are eligible to compete. Each team has a limit of three graduating seniors.

The rule was introduced in order to provide a feeder system for the league’s eight teams.
