The Halifax Hornets were in a funk.

Dropping three games in a row late in the season, Halifax faced a must-win situation Saturday if it was to secure second place in the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association’s Nova Scotia Division for next weekend’s playoff.

The Hornets found their way in time.

A 47-44 halftime lead turned into an 86-74 victory for Halifax over hometown Lake City 56ers of Dartmouth/Cole Harbour/Preston.

The game was played at the Zatzman SportsPlex in Dartmouth.

The win by the Hornets set up a rematch for next weekend against Lake City.

Date and time will be announced this week for the right to attend the PRO•LINE Legacy Cup Final Four championship June 20-21 at the Richard J. Currie Center in Fredericton.

Lucy Beaumont sparked Halifax with a 23-point outburst to lead all scorers. Clara Gascoigne had 14 and Chloe Wilson knocked down 10.

Olivia Logan canned five three-pointers to lead Lake City with 15 points. Lauren Armstrong scored a dozen and Evie Hargraves had 10.
