She is a difference maker and an intimidating opponent in the paint.

And she’s also the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association player of the week.

Kaylee Kilpatrick of Saint John’s Port City Fog is the league’s player of the week after a pair of strong performances that allowed her squad to enter a split of games entering this weekend’s tournament-styled action in Moncton.

Kilpatrick poured in 20 points and kept the ball away from opponents with her rebounding prowess to power the Fog past Moncton Mystics, 80-71 on Sunday. It was a season high in points for the former University of New Hampshire Wildcats’ star.

She had nine points in a tough 58-54 setback to Fredericton Freeze in the other Port City game on June 2.

Kilpatrick played professionally in Ireland, Australia and Germany before coming home and returning to Saint John.

Other nominees for the award were Emily MacLeod of the Freeze, Moncton’s Kelly Vass, Clara Gascoigne of the Halifax Hornets and Chelsea Slawter-Wright of Windsor Edge. Halifax Thunder was idle last week.

There is game action mid-week in Halifax when the Thunder hosts city rival Hornets in a 7 p.m. clash at Saint Mary’s University.

The Thunder is 6-0 and Hornets are nipping at its heels with a 5-1 mark.

All six MWBA teams converge on Moncton’s Harrison Trimble High School this weekend for six games.

It all opens at 3 p.m. when the Thunder and Freeze meet while Moncton welcomes Windsor at 5 p.m. The final game of the day has Port City facing the Hornets at 7 p.m.

On Sunday, Fredericton and Windsor open the curtain at 11 a.m. followed by Port City and the Thunder at 1 p.m. and Hornets and Moncton at 3 p.m.

Tickets are available at the door.
