Three games that mean plenty are on tap this week in the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association.

All teams are at the halfway point of their regular season and that means plenty of jockeying for position takes centre stage this week with two games in New Brunswick and one in Nova Scotia.

It all kicks off Thursday in Fredericton when the hometown Freeze try to separate itself from provincial rivals.

Fredericton hosts Highway No. 7 rival Port City Fog of Saint John.

Game time is 730 p.m. at Leo Hayes High School.

Tickets are $5 (cash) at the door across the board with children under-12 admitted free.

The Freeze sits fourth at 2-3 while Port City comes in fifth at 1-5.

There’s a key matchup on Saturday in Halifax when the host Hornets welcome Windsor Edge to The Hive at Mount St. Vincent University.

Game time is 3 p.m.

Windsor is on a two-game win streak and sits 3-2 for six points, nipping at the heels of the 4-1 Hornets for second spot overall.

It will be the first head-to-head matchup between the Edge and Hornets this season.

The week ends Sunday when Port City returns home to entertain the loud Fog Squad fans at Saint John High School, coming up against the Moncton Mystics.

Moncton is 0-5 and looking for a win in the rematch against Port City.

Halifax Thunder is idle this week, sitting atop the standings at 6-0.

Thunder is back in action June 8 when it hosts city rival Hornets, a 7 p.m. showdown at Saint Mary’s University.

The top New Brunswick and Nova Scotia teams will earn a first-round playoff bye while the remaining four teams will meet in quarter-final play.

MWBA championship, with founding partners Royale Tissue and Medavie, is June 24 to 26 at Saint Mary’s.
