The Maritime Women’s Basketball Association has released its schedule for its inaugural 2022 season.
The MWBA opens its season in April with a six-team league, three in New Brunswick and three in Nova Scotia.
Teams will play a 12-game schedule with six home and six away games. Each provincial-based team will make one intra-provincial trip during the season.
There will not be any games on Mother’s Day or Victoria Day Weekend, but there are numerous highlights in the schedule.
The first-ever game will be played in Saint John when the Port City Fog host Moncton Mystics in a battle of New Brunswick rivals. Moncton makes its home debut April 24 when it entertains Halifax Hornets. The Hornets will venture to Fredericton for the Freeze’s home opener April 23.
Halifax Thunder opens its season April 28 with a tilt against city rival Hornets.
Windsor Edge starts at home on April 30, welcoming the Thunder.
The league’s Final 6 championship weekend is set for June 24 to 26 at a site to be determined.
The top two teams during the regular season will earn an opening round bye.
You can view the schedule on the website.
Please note, some games are subject to change. Game times will also be announced in late March.
The MWBA is also cognizant of potential changes due to COVID-19 and possible governmental decisions that could cause change in the scheduling and format.
The league is looking at backup plans in order to ensure games are played if restrictions are eased at that time.
