Chances are pretty good if your initials are K.K., you’re in the middle of a heated scoring battle in the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association.
With four weeks in the books and one week of regular season play remaining, there is a tight race for individual accolades.
Regular season scoring averages are down across the board from the MWBA’s first season in 2022, but it’s going to be fun to keep an eye on things this week.
Entering games in Week V, Kaylee Kilpatrick of Saint John’s Port City Fog leads the way with 18.7 points per outing, a slight edge over last year’s scoring champion Karissa Kajorinne of Halifax Thunder, who checks in at 17.6 points per outing.
There is plenty of company.
Leonie Elbert of Moncton Mystics is third at 17.3 and then three members of the Fredericton Freeze come into play. Allie McCarthy is at 16.7 points a game and Kylee Speedy is at 16.7. Katie Butts has a 16.1 average.
Hannah Brown of the Halifax Hornets brings 14 points to the table and teammate Courtney Donaldson is at 13.2.
Lia St. Pierre of Moncton is ninth at 13 points per tilt and Jasmine Parent of the Hornets rounds out the top 10 with 12.7 ppg.
Port City, Moncton and Fredericton all have two games left.
Thunder and Hornets have one outing remaining on the schedule.
