Major Milestone for Fog Star

Quite a moment for Reese Baxendale.

The guard with University of New Brunswick scored her 1,000th Atlantic University Sport women’s basketball conference point, helping the Reds to an eventual 84-62 over host St. Francis Xavier University X-Women in Antigonish, NS.

Baxendale, out of Apohoqui, NB, scored 984 of those points with the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers, meaning two AUS teams celebrated the milestone.

A third team if you count the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association.

Baxendale plays with Saint John’s Port City Fog.

It was a huge fourth quarter that sparked UNB, outscoring its hosts, 28-9 in the pivotal frame to go 2-0 to start the season.

Baxendale’s UNB and Fog teammate Erin Ingalls had six points and five rebounds.

Kylee Speedy of the MWBA’s Fredericton Freeze drilled 20 points and her teammate Katie Butts had 10. Jenny Nkuah of the Freeze had six points and eight boards.

Katie Upham of Halifax Thunder scored eight points for the X-Women. Alisha McNeil of the Halifax Hornets had four rebounds.

Meanwhile, Hailey MacLeod of the Cape Breton University Capers had 17 points in an 82-53 win over Dalhousie University Tigers. MacLeod plays for Port City.

Sydney Guker-Wickie of Thunder had 15 points for the Tigers. Hornets’ forward Eva Widmeyer scored seven.

Courtney Donaldson of the Hornets had six points and Saint Mary’s University Huskies of Halifax downed host Acadia University Axewomen, 76-61 in Wolfville, NS.

In Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association action, Nalini Maharaj of Windsor Edge buried 19 points and had seven rebounds as reigning champion Mount St. Vincent University Mystics dropped Mount Allison University Mounties, 90-68 in Sackville.

Amelia Mitchell of the Fog had nine points and five rebounds for the Mounties.

Lauren Ford of the Edge had six points to help University of King’s College Blue Devils of Halifax to an 80-44 win over University of New Brunswick at Saint John Seawolves.

Bailey Henderson of the Fog had 18 points and 12 rebounds for UNBSJ.
