The Halifax-based 902 Hoops League is adding a women’s recreational division to its 2024 campaign.
‘We are aiming to launch with four to six teams to provide a platform for post-high school and university players,’ said league organizer, Robbie McGee. We want to see players seeking to stay active in basketball.’
McGee’s ambition was bolstered by the success of the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association which is preparing for its third season of action, beginning May 2.
The 902 circuit would run from May to July with a 10-game guarantee and at least one playoff game.
All games will be handled by registered officials and teams will wear customized jerseys.
The league is active on social media and interested players can visit its website at www.902hoops.ca
‘We are looking forward to collaborating with the MWBA in bringing women’s basketball to the forefront in our region,’ said McGee. ‘Just like the MWBA, we’re passionate about increasing opportunities for women to play basketball. I admire the commitment of the MWBA to develop and promote women’s basketball.’
