The Moncton Mystics and Port City Fog of Saint John made sure the scoreclock at St. Stephen High School was working.
It sure was.
The Mystics outlasted Port City, 85-80 in the opening game of the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association’s Battle at the Border – presented by McDonald’s.
Moncton advances to Sunday’s final at 1:30 p.m. for the World’s Oldest Basketball Court Cup against the winner of the Fredericton Freeze-Miramichi Her-icanes game.
Port City will face the loser of that game in Sunday’s 11:30 a.m. consolation game.
Allie Berry powered the Mystics in the back-and-forth outing that saw 19 successful three-pointers. Berry knocked down 19. Kelly Vass scored 13 and Kelsey McLaughlin had a dozen.
Erin Ingalls paced all scorers with the Fog with 23 points. Rachel Farwell, a national USPORTS champion two years ago, had 21 and reigning league MVP Kaylee Kilpatrick scored 20.
Moncton held a 41-40 edge at halftime.
