It was a record attendance for the Fredericton Freeze.
And the Freeze sent the 524 spectators at the Richard J. Currie Center home happy Saturday, an 82-61 win over the Moncton Mystics in Maritime Women’s Basketball Association play.
It was the season opener for both teams and a memorable one for Fredericton.
Katie Daley sparked the Freeze with 17 points as the hosts came out on fire, holding a 17-3 lead at one point, but Moncton refused to go quietly into the night. Katie Butts had 15 in support of Daley and Bailey Russell dropped 13 in her MWBA debut. Ann Bastien added a dozen.
Lindsay Black, also making her league debut, sparked Moncton with 17 points. Kelsey McLaughlin popped 14 and Ali Berry sunk 13.
Fredericton hits the road Sunday to visit the Miramichi Her-icanes, a 3 p.m. start at Miramichi Valley High School.
Moncton is idle Sunday.
