Fog Blankets Her-Icanes

The Port City Fog returned to the scene where it dropped a Legacy Cup final last June.

This time, the Fog left the TD Station floor in Saint John victorius, opening the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association season with a 76-59 victory over visiting Miramichi Heri-Icanes Saturday night.

It was the first-ever regular season game for Miramichi.

Veteran Courtney Thompson paced Port City with 16 points. Kaylee Kilpatrick, the league’s reigning MVP, shook off an early injury and counted a dozen points. Erin Ingalls had 11 and Rachel Farwell 10.

Electric Lauren Rainford scored 17 for Miramichi. Alexa Rancourt and Abby Miller had seven each.

The ‘Canes return home Sunday to welcome the Fredericton Freeze in a 3 p.m. contest.

The outing will be played at Miramchi Valley High School.
