MWBA - Maritime Womens Basketball Association

Her-icanes Name Head Coach

The Miramichi Her-icanes have their roster.

They have their venue.

And they have their first-ever coach.

Miramichi’s own Brittany Sullivan will guide the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association expansion Her-icanes into play this season.

The Her-icanes will join New Brunswick rivals Fredericton Freeze, Moncton Mystics and Port City Fog of Saint John along with Nova Scotia’s Halifax Thunder, Halifax Hornets and Lake City 56ers of Dartmouth region in the circuit.

The third season of play kicks off Thursday, May 2, in Halifax when the reigning Legacy Cup champion Thunder face the Hornets at Saint Mary’s University.

Sullivan and the Her-icanes continue announce their inaugural roster for the campaign.

A lawyer by profession, Sullivan is certainly not a stranger to basketball.

An interscholastic star, she turned that into a career with the Atlantic University Sport Dalhousie University Tigers, beginning in the 2006-07 season. She appeared in 51 games with the Tigers over four seasons. Sullivan appeared in one national championship with Dalhousie.

Miramichi, like most MWBA teams, will have a mixture of present day and former players in the lineup.

The Her-icanes will be heavy on local talent as well.

Rosters for all teams in the league have to be submitted one week prior to each team’s first game of the season.

Miramichi opens the season on the road, visiting the Fog on Saturday, May 4.

The much-anticipated home opener is Sunday, May 5, hosting Fredericton at Miramichi Valley High School.

Game time is 3 p.m.
